In the heart of Seattle, college student Kate is struggling to decide what she wants to do for her future. It seems like everyone else has figured it out before her, and despite support from her friends and family, she feels more than ever that she’s alone. She yearns to have something more than the life she’s given. On a typical boring night, she gets a call from her best friend Jayde, inviting her to help in organizing his photos for his photography class. Though, once they both arrive in the darkroom, they discover a hidden room behind a bookshelf, revealing a secret laboratory that seemed to have been vacant for decades. Curiosity gets the better of them, and Jayde accidentally turns on something he shouldn’t have. A machine whirs to life, creating a small portal and tearing through the fabric of space and time. In an instant, Kate is hurled into another world, leaving Jayde behind.
Kate awakens to the sights and sounds of a cyber city, where ominous guards prowl the streets. After she narrowly escapes a capture, she realizes the gravity of the situation – she’s trapped, with no idea how to get back home. Now, the clock is ticking against her, with every day spent here her body grows more ill. With a tyrannical leader set out to destroy her and her universe for her own gain, she teams up with Simon – a renowned thief of the land, and Jamie – the prince and son of the queen set out to kill her, the three make up an unlikely trio, but just may be enough to save the world. That’s what they hope, at least.

Moonbright
The place that Kate ends up in is called the Moonbright Empire.
Located on the coast on the continent of Etherion, the architecture of the empire is a mix of the familiarity of a metropolitan society; large concrete buildings that tower the sky, bustling lights, and a city that never sleeps. Though, these buildings with iridescent surfaces reflect the cosmic light of the night, creating a cityscape that glows with the colors of galaxies and super novas. Towers and spires reach towards the skies, designed to resemble the forms of distant celestials. (Here’s a Pinterest board so you can get the vague idea!)
The center of the empire, a sprawling citadel known as the Frostveil Palace, is where the ruler lives, Queen Zeph (short for Zephyris) and her son, Jamie. The kingdom used to be ruled by second ruler, the late King Kade, but after his death a few years ago, the kingdom had plunged into a fascistic state. The once-benevolent governance (or so people say) has twisted into a regime of paranoia and fear. So do not let the pretty skylines fool you, the streets are patrolled by the Queen's enforcers, ensuring that the populace remains under strict surveillance and control. The city itself is separated into certain sections, the areas near the center is more rich and lively, like the City of Chrono. Known for it’s bustling culture underground, away from the eyes of surveillance, it is a symbol of both a resistance within the upper class. Yet, it is also symbol of compliance for others, as people from up there aren’t too fond of outsiders. Other areas, like the Outskirts, are the bottom of the food chain, and are more vulnerable to crimes and attacks from the government.
MAGIC SYSTEM
In this reality, magic flows through every living being, it is the very essence of their soul. When put into an environment that lacks magic – for instance, Earth, their body starts to fall ill. Same vice versa, if a human being, or anything that lacks magic in their soul goes to a magical realm, their soul cannot handle the abundant magical energy and they also start to fall ill. The only way to prevent this kind of thing from happening is having one of the star stones. To get a star stone you must wish upon a star and participate in a ritual to the moon. Even then, it doesn’t always work. Some have tried to find a scientific way to create a star stone artificially, but it falls short almost every time.
A lot of the magic in this realm is derived from the moon itself. Similar to Earth's moon, this reality’s moon and the planet exert a pull on each other. This causes a lot of the movement and equilibrium of magical energy on the planet (think how Earth’s moon helps with the gravitational pull of oceans, causing high tides and stuff) Depending on the phase of the moon, it determines how powerful or how weak the magic is. When there’s a full moon, the magic is at its peak, when the moon retreats into the shadow of a new moon, magic dwindles. Throughout the ages, curious minds have questioned and ventured into the unknown, seeking to understand the ins and outs of this plane of existence. There have been many breakthroughs but not all the questions have their answers revealed…
